PitchFest 2021 Terms & Conditions

Stages and Format

1. Writers submit logline (not more than 30 words) and synopsis (not more than 500 words) for Fiction or Factual.

   • All genres accepted except Reality and Variety.

   • Deadline is on Wednesday, 1 December 2021 at 11.59pm.

   • Entry fee is $10 for the Open category and $3 for the Student category

   • For members of Screenwriters Association (Singapore), entry is free.

   • Payment to be made by PayNow or Direct Bank Transfer only.

2. Entries will be shortlisted by a panel of experienced screenwriters.

3. The top 10 entries will then be invited to an “closed” pitch to judges from Screenwriters Association (Singapore), Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), National Library Board (NLB) and Singapore Association of Motion Pictures Professionals (SAMPP) via Zoom on the last week of December 2021 (date to be confirmed).

Contest Rules

1. All copyrights to submitted logline, synopsis and development work belong to the Contestant who entered his/her original work.

2. Writers may pitch in teams of up to three persons for any one pitch. Each team will share ONE prize. So if the team wins the top prize, all three members will split the $1,500 cash and $1,000 development money.

3. Team finalists may choose to have just one of the team members pitch to the judges.

4. For the Open category, the 1st prize winner will receive $1,500 by bank transfer the next working day. The remaining $1,000 will be disbursed in two tranches of $500 each — the first $500 will be paid upon submission of beats and character bible by 28 January 2022, while the second $500 will be paid upon submission of treatment (6-8 pages) by 28 February 2022. Payment will transferred into the winner's bank account within 30 days of submissions.

5. For the 2nd and 3rd prize winners of the Open category and all winners from the Student category. they will receive their cash prizes via bank transfer the next working day.

6. A finalist who is unable to attend/confirm attendance at PitchFest finals on Pitch Day (date to be confirmed), will forfeit his/her place to the 11th-placed entry.

7. Contestants are to allow the organiser Screenwriters Association (Singapore) and its sponsor IMDA to profile the event winner and participants for educational, promotional, non-commercial and non-profit purposes.

8. Finalists are to allow Screenwriters Association (Singapore) and IMDA access to interviews and photos.

NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT

The writer (“Writer”) has applied to participate in the SAS PITCHFEST 2021. In consideration of Writer’s application to and/or participation in the PitchFest, Writer agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Screenwriters Association (Singapore) and its respective committees, officers, directors, members, PitchFest readers, PitchFest judges, event sponsors and event partners from and against any and all claims, damages, costs, expenses, causes of action, known or unknown, arising out of or relating in any way to the Applicant's submission of intellectual property to the PitchFest.

Writer agrees that submission of his or her intellectual property is entirely at Writer's personal risk. Neither the PitchFest nor the event organisers, sponsors or partners will have any responsibility or liability in connection with the Writer's submission of such intellectual property, or as a consequence of any opinion, analysis or other comment or advice given to Writer concerning the intellectual property. Writer represents that he or she has read this Non-Disclosure Agreement and understands its contents, and has executed it voluntarily, effective on the date indicated below.

The Contestant is making online submissions for the SAS PitchFest 2021 to the organiser, Screenwriters Association (Singapore), upon the conditions hereinafter set forth.

For the purpose of this Agreement, “Confidential Information” shall mean any information disclosed, made accessible or provided online, whether in writing, orally, visually or electronically or otherwise.

Confidential Information excludes information falling within any one or more of the following:

(a) Information which at the time of disclosure is in the public domain or generally known or available in the industry.

(b) Information which subsequent to disclosure becomes part of the public domain or generally known or available in the industry.

(c) Information which was in the possession of the Contestant or Screenwriters Association (Singapore) at the time of submission of loglines, synopses or intellectual property.

(d) Information which any of the parties involved independently acquires or develops.

The Contestant shall:

i. Guarantee that his/her submission is original and wholly his/her own work.

ii. Safeguard the confidentiality of all Confidential Information and respect the Intellectual Property rights of the other Contestants during the Open Pitch at the Finals.

iii. Strictly limit access by its employees, agents or sub-contractors (“Representatives”) to the Confidential Information on a need-to-know basis and ensure that the Representatives are bound by the terms of this Agreement.

iv. Not circulate, quote, disclose or otherwise reproduce any Confidential Information without the prior written approval of Screenwriters Association (Singapore).

MISCELLANEOUS

Copyrights to all entries remain with writers who submitted them.

Writers are advised to copyright their works at Writers Guild of America, West Script Registration - WGAW Registry, prior to submissions.
